Maths in hub 5 & 6

WE have been building our knowledge about number!

Tessa what numbers are you drawing? Are you being determined?

Miss P's group are looking at ordering numbers, you are having to do a lot of thinking!

Well done you are building your knowledge about how many 10s are in a number.

Keep going Boston, you can do it!

Tanuki you are learning very well, being independent in your learning

What we love about Stonefields!

Today some more of the learners got to know ClickerDocs.  First we brainstormed words that we might use and then the learners collaborated to write stories about Stonefields.

We were inclusive and respectful when we worked together.  We helped each other with spelling and finger spacing and shared ideas.  Some of us were leaders and some of us were learners.

Can you see the words we wrote together in our word bank on the picture above?

"It was fun using it because we got to make sentences" - Rhys

"It was fun because we getted to write about beehive colours" - Georgia F.

"We used it like independent learners" - Dylan

"It was fantastic because we typed about Stonefields colours.  When we didn't know a word, we used the words that we loaded up on the screen" - Tanuki

"It was a bit tricky to spell school.  I saw it was on my t-shirt" - Maia

Time to talk with Ginger

We have been learning how to be good listeners with Ginger this week.
Good listeners:
Look with their eyes
Listen with their ears
Keep Still
And are quiet when it is someone else's turn to talk.

Sharing our Stories with Clicker Docs

Today some of us have been learning how to record our stories using Clicker Docs on the iPad.  This app has a predictive spelling tool that will make suggestions based on the letters the learners type in.  It even reads their sentences back to them when they're finished with each one.

Here's Harrison showing us how to use it and reflecting on the app:

Today in concept we were learning how to change the sound of our instruments.

Some of us shook our shakers harder to make the sound louder.

Some of us changed the way we used the instrument which made the sound of it change.

Can you remember how many different sounds you were able to make?

I made this with Tanuki and Hailey at reading. We collaborated together and it was fun.

Thinking critically in reading (and justifying too!)

Today in reading one of our groups thought about a character who liked to make up stories.  He did lots of imagining and didn't quite tell the truth about what happened.

We had to decide if what he did was right or not and placed ourselves on this continuum.  We also had to justify our thinking (which we all did a fabulous job of!)

(Click the image below to enlarge it and read our thinking)

We decided together that it's great that Eddy made up imaginative stories but he should have told the teacher that they were his ideas from his mind, rather than really what happened.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2013

Today all of Stonefields School and the other schools in our cluster went to the Sylvia Park movies and watched our Manaiakalani Film Festival movies on the Extreme Screen!

It was so much fun and we really enjoyed watching the different movies.

This was our movie on the big screen.  Can you see Mina and Charlie introduce it?  They look so little from up in the back row!

"I felt happy because it was fun and we got to use cameras and we got to go under a picnic blanket" - George

"I felt happy because it was fun because we were making the pictures" - Tanuki

"I was excited because everyone in the movie theatre got to see our video" - Riley

"I felt sad because it was a sad song but I was also proud because I made it!" - Carys

Well done to Mrs Jackson who worked with this group of learners during break through time.  We're all so proud of what you achieved.

Measurement with Mrs Jackson

This morning at the start of our Marvellous Maths Day we talked about our Learner Quality of being Determined.

We did some great thinking about Jack and the Beanstalk. What is taller than and shorter than.

We measured who was taller and shorter than.

Some of us are the same size too.

We measured ourselves.

We made tall beanstalks.

We had to be determined.
