Probability

We have been learning lots of new language in Probability.  We have learnt about chance, possible, impossible, likely and less likely.

Oscar F - What is the chance that I choose the red one?
Nubaid - It is less likely because there is only one.

Britta - What is the chance of me picking a black dinosaur?
Julia - It would be impossible because there are no black dinosaurs.

Aaron - What is the chance of choosing a green dinosaur?
Brodie - It is likely because there are more greens than yellows.

Alexi - What is the chance of me choosing a yellow one?
Ruby - It is impossible because there are no yellow ones.

WALHT: Give and receive feedback in writing

Today we gave feedback to each other in our writing.

We talked about sharing the things that we liked and suggesting a next step or two.  We decided that feedback is a really exciting thing as it reminds us of what we did well and helps us in our learning.

We also looked at the WALHT ('We Are Learning How To...') and tried to decide if the learner focused on this.

Here's Mrs Chant's example for Griffin:

Here we are sharing some of our feedback:

Griffin feeding back to Isla:

Brodie feeding back to Aaron:

How do you think we went?

Statistics and graphs.

Here is a graph showing which colour we prefer. How did we get this information? How did we create our graph?

We were sorting ourselves out into 2 groups can you work out what they are...
Learners with long sleeves...

Learners with short sleeves.

Can you work out what information we are putting on this graph?

This graph shows the different ways we al get to school.

What are you drawing Max?

This is your favourite colour Jorja.

Look at how we create the graph.

We collaborate and created these graphs, can you find them in the hub?

Sharing our stories in different ways

Today we had the choice between creating a real story or an imaginative one that involved swimming at school.

We chose to either use Clicker Docs or DoodleCast on the iPads and collaborated with others.

Here's Hailey and Isla listening back to their story...

Then they reflected on how they went.  They decided that they did a good job of remembering some important information and also talking and drawing at once.  They also decided the their next step is to ensure they don't talk over each other.

What do you think?

Beatrice, Keira, Lily and Madi worked together to create this story - they're still having a think about their reflection.  What do you think they did well?

Look at all this awesome thinking, collaboration and reflection!!

Performing "The Crab Hunt"

What we think we did well:
  • "Saying it loud" - Brodie
  • "We did well reading all the words 'till the end" - Joshua B.
  • "We spoke clearly and we read all of the words good" - Hailey

Our next steps are:
  • "Brodie and Aaron should not have said 'Matt'" - Lily N.
  • "Speak a little bit more louder" - Brodie
  • "The next time, we could wriggle a little bit less" - Hailey
  • "Maybe next time we won't play with our costumes" - Lily N.
  • "Next time we shouldn't move, we should stay still" - Brodie

Mrs Chant wonders...

Could you think of a way to move like your characters?  For example, when your character looks under a rock, what could you do with your body?  We call this acting.

Let's have a try...

How do you think we did?

Communication: How to comment on the blog

Today the filming break through group collaborated to make a video to teach you how to comment on the blog.

They first learnt how to comment on the blog, then we filmed each other, decided on the main steps, planned what we wanted to say and then we used the microphone to record ourselves.

If the video has helped teach you how to comment, could you please comment telling us?

Thank you!

What we love about Stonefields!

Today some more of the learners got to know ClickerDocs.  First we brainstormed words that we might use and then the learners collaborated to write stories about Stonefields.

We were inclusive and respectful when we worked together.  We helped each other with spelling and finger spacing and shared ideas.  Some of us were leaders and some of us were learners.

Can you see the words we wrote together in our word bank on the picture above?

"It was fun using it because we got to make sentences" - Rhys

"It was fun because we getted to write about beehive colours" - Georgia F.

"We used it like independent learners" - Dylan

"It was fantastic because we typed about Stonefields colours.  When we didn't know a word, we used the words that we loaded up on the screen" - Tanuki

"It was a bit tricky to spell school.  I saw it was on my t-shirt" - Maia

Break Through 28th February Animal and Art Groups

We looked and found out how to use pastels to create patterns.

Experimented with different designs.

We went to the library to research patterns.

Making Our Lunch!

Last week we spent our writing time writing invitations.  We invited our parents to come in and help us to make our own lunch.

We planned our menu and got into groups to decide on the special touches we wanted.

Yesterday was the big day when we made our delicious food!

Measurement with Mrs Jackson

This morning at the start of our Marvellous Maths Day we talked about our Learner Quality of being Determined.

We did some great thinking about Jack and the Beanstalk. What is taller than and shorter than.

We measured who was taller and shorter than.

Some of us are the same size too.

We measured ourselves.

We made tall beanstalks.

We had to be determined.
