Hats for term 4!

This term we all need to be wearing school hats as it is the summer term just like term 1. We find it useful if there is something attached to our hats so that we can identify our own one really easily.

These group of children are fine demonstrators!

Thank you to our volunteers :-) We like how you have put a ribbon or a button or badges on your school hats. Round of applause for all of you in hub 1!

From next week if you don't bring your hat to school, unfortunately you will have to sit in the shade during break times so please remember to bring them!

Brushing our teeth

We have been talking about brushing our teeth with Ginger over the last two weeks, the children have been very helpful to Gingers friend Honey Bear who needed to go visit the dentist.
They have explained to them how to brush their teeth and made posters.

Respectful Learners in LH1

Today during PE some of our learners were the most AMAZING role models.  They showed respect by making eye contact with the person speaking.  They listened carefully for their instructions.  They collaborated with the other members of their team.

How else can you show respect?

"Maybe next time at PE you can be respectful and be on the blog!" - Bella

"Maybe next time at PE the teachers could try and be respectful" - Kyan

Are the teachers respectful?  Yes

"How could the teachers be more respectful then?" - Mrs Freddy

"They could help people if they fall over" - Mina

"I hope we get to be on the blog!!" - Miss Holland

Ariel's Amazing Learning in English

When Ariel first came to Stonefields School she was quite new to speaking English.  Like many of our students, Ariel speaks another language at home and is learning English at the same time.  She is such a determined learner!!

Ariel has made amazing progress and recorded this story to share with you all.

Measurement with Mrs Freddy

Today we learnt about estimating and measuring with hand spans.

First we read a book teaching us what measuring was all about.  Then, we learnt the meaning of some fancy words like: estimate (guess), measure, longer, shorter, wider, narrower.  After that, we had great fun measuring with our hands.

Devynee estimated the side of the table would be 6 hand spans.  When she measured it came out to 4 hand spans - a pretty close estimate!

Krishna estimated that the width of the computer would be 3 hand spans.  It turned out to be 5 hand spans!  Another close estimate!  Awesome!

Ariel estimated that the width of the computer would be 4 hand spans.  It was actually 3 hand spans when she measured.  Wow, what a super estimate!

We found that everyone had a different hand span, therefore we all had different results.

Cultural Day in LH1

We've had such a great time today in Learning Hub One - it's been Cultural Day!

Here we are in the morning.  We were really proud of ourselves as every single learner was able to talk on the microphone to say where they come from!

We paraded through the school showing off our cultural dress and recorded what we thought of our clothes...

Would you believe that Kyan (who was dressed as a New Zealand farmer) even arranged for some lambs to come and visit us?!  Here we are with Lily and Simba.  We asked lots of really good questions at the end of their visit.  Thank you Kyan and your Mum for organising this amazing surprise!

We sketched picture of each other in our cultural dress and had to pay close attention to the details.

Then in the afternoon, some of our big buddies from Learning Hub Three came to perform some of their Kapa Haka waiatas and hakas.  We were very lucky to get a private performance!

We had a fun day today celebrating all of our different cultures!!

Learners and parents, please share your comments and thoughts either in this box below or by leaving a comment...

Independent Learning during Literacy time

Look at Jacqueline's awesome independent learning from today!

Ariel has been learning English.  Here is a picture that she drew and labelled.  She has been learning the words for her family members, animals and colours!  Go Ariel!  We are all so proud of her learning.

Ariel and Sarah reading and translating in Mandarin

Yesterday our big buddies visited us again in LH1.  As many of us speak other languages, it can be a special time to connect and learn English through our first language.
