Sharing our stories in different ways

Today we had the choice between creating a real story or an imaginative one that involved swimming at school.

We chose to either use Clicker Docs or DoodleCast on the iPads and collaborated with others.

Here's Hailey and Isla listening back to their story...

Then they reflected on how they went.  They decided that they did a good job of remembering some important information and also talking and drawing at once.  They also decided the their next step is to ensure they don't talk over each other.

What do you think?

Beatrice, Keira, Lily and Madi worked together to create this story - they're still having a think about their reflection.  What do you think they did well?

Look at all this awesome thinking, collaboration and reflection!!

Writing about our painted characters!

Mrs Purcell's writing groups have been panting the most amazing characters.  They brainstormed words, then drafted their stories, conferenced, published and then read their stories (so they could be typed).

Didn't they do well!

Mr Tall is tall and he has long legs and he likes to be happy.  He also likes to jump up and down and he nearly touches the sun.  He comes with a thump and everything goes up.  Mr Tall is blue and he is orange and he is green.  He is purple and he is red.  By Ben

Miss Molly has a purple tail and has eyes and a blue side.  By Mia

Mrs Rose-fluffball is big and she eats like a pig.  She is a girl and she is happy.  He favourite thing is singing and playing.  She is happy.  She pinches herself.  She is purple and she has a black nose. She likes to dance.  By Hailey

My character is called Mr Tickletree and he looks cool and he likes tickling you and he is colourful!  By Eric

Blue Robot likes to play rugby.  Blue Robot likes to play in the playground and in the house too.  Blue Robot likes to play with people.  He likes to eat chocolate.  Blue Robot is 20 years old and likes clothes and fish and chips.  By Aaron

If you come into the hub soon, you'll see all of their creations and writing up on the wall!

Performing "The Crab Hunt"

What we think we did well:
  • "Saying it loud" - Brodie
  • "We did well reading all the words 'till the end" - Joshua B.
  • "We spoke clearly and we read all of the words good" - Hailey

Our next steps are:
  • "Brodie and Aaron should not have said 'Matt'" - Lily N.
  • "Speak a little bit more louder" - Brodie
  • "The next time, we could wriggle a little bit less" - Hailey
  • "Maybe next time we won't play with our costumes" - Lily N.
  • "Next time we shouldn't move, we should stay still" - Brodie

Mrs Chant wonders...

Could you think of a way to move like your characters?  For example, when your character looks under a rock, what could you do with your body?  We call this acting.

Let's have a try...

How do you think we did?

What we love about Stonefields!

Today some more of the learners got to know ClickerDocs.  First we brainstormed words that we might use and then the learners collaborated to write stories about Stonefields.

We were inclusive and respectful when we worked together.  We helped each other with spelling and finger spacing and shared ideas.  Some of us were leaders and some of us were learners.

Can you see the words we wrote together in our word bank on the picture above?

"It was fun using it because we got to make sentences" - Rhys

"It was fun because we getted to write about beehive colours" - Georgia F.

"We used it like independent learners" - Dylan

"It was fantastic because we typed about Stonefields colours.  When we didn't know a word, we used the words that we loaded up on the screen" - Tanuki

"It was a bit tricky to spell school.  I saw it was on my t-shirt" - Maia

Music and Songs Break Through groups

We had so much fun collaborating, sharing ideas and talking about what we could do for our projects.

We played with the instruments and then decided what we were going to use for our songs. Our voice is an instrument too!

We gave each other feedback so that we have next steps to improve our performances. We had a fantastic day!

Measurement with Mrs Jackson

This morning at the start of our Marvellous Maths Day we talked about our Learner Quality of being Determined.

We did some great thinking about Jack and the Beanstalk. What is taller than and shorter than.

We measured who was taller and shorter than.

Some of us are the same size too.

We measured ourselves.

We made tall beanstalks.

We had to be determined.

Children during their reading session

Aarav,  Zahra and Julia are learning to read silently as part of their reading session,  keep going!!!

Margot and Kyan are improving their ability to read silently. Awesome!!

Sachintha and Annabelle had fun blowing bubbles after reading their book!

Brooke read a story today about bubbles. They went up and up and up!!
Just like your bubbles Brooke.

Te Au Aio, awesome bubble blowing! Some of the others were trying to pop your bubbles.

Hailey was able to blow a long line of bubbles, they went up and up and up,  then down and down and down.

Using the Learning Process in Reading

Lily R and Rachel have been making meaning in their reading. They have been learning about different blends and worked independently to increase her understanding.

Hailey is writing her list words. She is building her knowledge with reading.

Sachintha is building his knowledge by writing down new list words from his book.
