Basic Facts!

We have been thinking how fast we can recall our doubles.
Can you use your doubles to find the answers to other basic facts questions?

Duality maps

The boys have finished their duality maps and here is a short video of them talking about them.  They really enjoyed doing these and asked every day if it was time to do their maps.

Duality Maps

We are making a duality map on Animals or Transport to see the differences between our ethnic country and New Zealand.  We have just made a start and will be working on them over the next couple of weeks.

Feedback on our Re-tell

Today Madi, Jim, Isla and Bella re-told their story in their own words.  We recorded it on this video so that we could watch it back and give ourselves feedback.

Here is the video:

We thought we did a good job of:
  • Collaborating to re-tell the story
  • Collaborating when someone needed help (team work)
  • We spoke clearly
  • We looked at the person who was talking
  • We used with pictures to help us remember it

We thought we could improve on:
  • Giving all the information (like, saying they were going to the park)
  • We could use one or two words from the story to remind us - but we don't want to read all the words.  "If you look at every page and read all the words, you'll get too slow and tired" - Jim

What do you think?

Hieroglyphic Bookmarks

Today we learnt how to communicate in Egyptian Hieroglyphics.

We gave it a go and wrote our name on bookmarks.  Don't they look great?

Great learning in Reading!

Some of the 'red readers' would like to share their learning from today with you:

"Today I was stretching my learning.  I am working it out to sound it out.  I was self-aware" - Cymorah

"I wrote about the crab and Little Fish.  The crab has legs and Little Fish saw them" - Blake.  Blake made a great connection between the crab and his legs.

Dominic has been practicing his letter formation and learning how to hold his pencil well.  Isn't he doing a great job!

We also celebrated with our learners who have been learning to correctly say certain sounds.  They've been so determined!!

Fun in literacy learning!

Bringing reading and writing together has proven successful in hub 5/6. We love experiences that create memories for our learning.

Here are some of us in action after reading our books about bubbles and a story about a road that had a big hole that needed to be covered for cars to go over.

Learning our List Words using Bitsboard

Today we used the iPads to learn our list words.

Miss Holland was pressing lots of buttons and that's not working good.  It wasn't very good because she was too fast and you have to slow down when you're doing it so you can think!  And you will slow down and choose one.

We had to think, and talk and collaborate with our partner, and then we had to connect.  We also had to do lots of listening.

It was hard but sometimes we knew what to push!  We will do some more practicing.

By Reilly, Jim, Ella and Mercedez (today's thinking and connecting super stars!)

(When we practice, we are Building our Learning Capacity which is what Rocky does)

Time to talk with Ginger

We have been learning how to be good listeners with Ginger this week.
Good listeners:
Look with their eyes
Listen with their ears
Keep Still
And are quiet when it is someone else's turn to talk.

Buddy Reading with Hub 9!

Thank you Samo, it was really good to listen to you reading to us.
 .
Elliott, showing the children the pictures is a great idea!
Using an interactive book was a lovely idea!

Today in concept we were learning how to change the sound of our instruments.

Some of us shook our shakers harder to make the sound louder.

Some of us changed the way we used the instrument which made the sound of it change.

Can you remember how many different sounds you were able to make?
