Our next steps in Probability!

Today after our probability learning we reflected on what our next steps might be...

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2013

Today all of Stonefields School and the other schools in our cluster went to the Sylvia Park movies and watched our Manaiakalani Film Festival movies on the Extreme Screen!

It was so much fun and we really enjoyed watching the different movies.

This was our movie on the big screen.  Can you see Mina and Charlie introduce it?  They look so little from up in the back row!

Waste Audit- creating a sustainable future

Today some of the children who belong to the enviro group undertook the waste audit for the whole school.

 We looked at the rubbish from each hub

 We sorted and weighed it and then we ....

reflected on our next learning steps.

How can we help at home? Washing up the cups in writing this week......

We built our knowledge......

by bringing what we already know about washing up.

We predicted how we might wash up ......

We collaborated and drew our picture plan to record our thinking ....

We shared our ideas back to the writing group.

We got our equipment.

We made lots of bubbles.

We practiced....

Respectful Learners in LH1

Today during PE some of our learners were the most AMAZING role models.  They showed respect by making eye contact with the person speaking.  They listened carefully for their instructions.  They collaborated with the other members of their team.

How else can you show respect?

"Maybe next time at PE you can be respectful and be on the blog!" - Bella

Amazing Learning in Reading!

In reading some of us have been learning to add detail to our re-telling and predicting. Today Krishna and Daniel were predicting superstars!

Alvyn and Aurelia tried using DoodleCast on the iPad for the first time today.  Here's their recording.  What feedback might you give to them?  

"I really liked how you two were collaborating to make the programme" - Bella

"They did a good job.  They collaborated" - Harrison

"I like how they made it more interesting.  At the beginning they didn't do much much talking" - Mina

Didn't they improve as their video went on - it's a bit tricky using it to start with but by the end they were able to draw and tell a story too.  Can you hear them collaborating to make the video?  Ka pai!

Here's Loeki practicing his fluency.  He doesn't sound at all like a robot - just like he's normally talking!  What feedback could you give him?

Maths Strand - learning about time

We have been learning how to order events, including drawing and writing about our favourite time at school.







Mrs Panapa taught us about the days of the week in Maori and we made them into a chain. The order of school events are up on the window in hub 1.

Story Telling Using Doodlecast

Today some of us were introduced to a screen recording app called Doodlecast - here's Mina (with the help of Alexi, Carys and Eugene) recording a story she made up.

What we did in reading today...

Today in reading we learnt lots of amazing things! One group focused on conjunctions and learnt how to join two words together with an apostrophe... 

Another group learnt about compound words like wheelchair and airplane.  Do you know what a compound word is?

Stonefields has gone BRONZE

We're very proud today as Stonefields School got a Bronze Enviro Aware this morning.  We've been working very hard to get this.

Dancing to the Beat

Look at the Break Through Group- we learning how to use the count of 8 to help us with our dancing.

Making connections independently!

Today whilst we were reading a number of learners made connections without being prompted to do so - don't they rock!

The Kitty Ran Up the Tree: A song/poem!

Last week Emily, Mina and Carys read a poem called The Kitty Ran Up the Tree.  We made a connection that this poem matched the rhythm of a song from Alice in Wonderland.

Homophone Matching and Memory

Did you know that some words sound exactly the same, even though they're spelt different and have different meanings?

Mina, Carys and Emily L. have been learning about these words called homophones and started by matching them up in a game... now they're stretching themselves by playing homophone memory!

If you'd like to learn how to play, you might like to ask them to teach you!

Assembly tomorrow: Learning to Type & Phonics

We have been learning how to type using Dance Mat Typing on the computers.

It is lots of fun and can be quite hard and stretchy.

Miss Holland helped us to make a video about it for you to watch.  If you come to assembly tomorrow (and you should, if you can!) you might even see us up on the big screen.

Some of the other learners in the hub will be showing off what they've learnt in phonics too.

We'd love to see you at the assembly tomorrow at 9 o'clock!

Dance Mat Typing

Whilst our other fabulous learners are getting their teeth into phonics, Emily L., Carys and Mina have been building their learning capacity in a different way... they've been learning to type on the computer using Dance Mat Typing.
