Maui and the Sun

We built our knowledge by reading Maui and the Sun.
Next, we made meaning by summarising the story.  After that, we applied our understanding by creating our pastel and dye of the sun.  We collaborated by deciding what colours to use, and where to draw our koru.
We are great artists!

Being inclusive

After reading 'Tom's Ride' we thought about how we could be inclusive of the new Sommerville children to Stonefields School.  Have a look at our fabulous ideas!

I wonder which idea you will choose?  How will you action it?

Reading 'The Snow Bus' and Applying Understanding

We have been reading the play The Snow Bus. Katie then thought to Apply our Understanding we could create our own Snow Bus. We then problem solved as we don't have snow. Aarav thought that using the slide might be a good test.

Connecting Super Stars!

Today in literacy time a number of learners collaborated to write their own stories using Clicker Docs.

Sarah and Boston were connecting super stars!  They used the words they'd written with their group the day before, the words we listed together in Clicker Docs and even decided to get a word card to help them.

What amazing independent learners they are!

Sequencing at reading time using the Learning Process

We built knowledge about the puzzles.  I was in the learning pit. I was at the bottom of the learning pit and I was thinking so hard that I climbed out of the pit I was then making meaning and then I made the puzzle.  Aarav

First I knew the first bit of the puzzle. I was determined because the next bit I  kept getting it wrong, because Aarav had tried to use some of those pieces. Anna
First it was a bit tricky I was in the learning pit then I found the bottom bits I made meaning by sticking them together. Then I found the top bit I kept going I was determined and I did lots of thinking. Katie

I was in the learning pit and used the learning process to practice (building my knowledge). I then finished because I put things in the right order. Sarah

Time to talk with Ginger

We have been learning how to be good listeners with Ginger this week.
Good listeners:
Look with their eyes
Listen with their ears
Keep Still
And are quiet when it is someone else's turn to talk.

Writing about our 'children'

Most of us remembered to bring our gingerbread children back to school today... Ashikka and Zoe even spent time last night decorating their carry cases and Flynn gave his person a healthy dinner of broccoli!

Tonight we're all going home with them and will be thinking about what we can do to help keep them safe and healthy.  Try to get some pictures of you looking after your 'children' if you can, LH1!

Hats for term 4!

This term we all need to be wearing school hats as it is the summer term just like term 1. We find it useful if there is something attached to our hats so that we can identify our own one really easily.

These group of children are fine demonstrators!

Thank you to our volunteers :-) We like how you have put a ribbon or a button or badges on your school hats. Round of applause for all of you in hub 1!

From next week if you don't bring your hat to school, unfortunately you will have to sit in the shade during break times so please remember to bring them!

Thank you for giving me a brush Aarav!

What did Sammy feel like?

I like meeting new people!

Pleased to meet you all!

Measurement with Mrs Jackson

This morning at the start of our Marvellous Maths Day we talked about our Learner Quality of being Determined.

We did some great thinking about Jack and the Beanstalk. What is taller than and shorter than.

We measured who was taller and shorter than.

Some of us are the same size too.

We measured ourselves.

We made tall beanstalks.

We had to be determined.

Phonics and Handwriting Brain exercises!

After phonics we get both sides of our brain to talk to each other. We pat our head and rub our tummies.
We march on the spot or around the hub.

We learn how to touch the opposite knee with our opposite hand.

It is hard and we have to be determined.

Look at us we have got it... Can you practice at home?
