Cardboard cars

We read a book called 'Jack and Billy'.  

We read how Jack and Billy made their own cars out of cardboard boxes.  We decided to give it a go ourselves and make our own cars.  We made connections with our cardboard cars to the cars in the book.

Making play dough for practising our list words.

We made some play dough together so that we could use it to practice our list words during literacy time.  It's just another great way to help us learn our words. They enjoyed taking turns and measuring out the ingredients. We had a hard choice what colours to make but in the end they decided amongst themselves.

We are practising looking for our list words in word find puzzles, looking through each line from left to right.  Another great way of practising them is drawing with chalk outside. We have put some of them up on our word wall, so we have another place to look if we get stuck.

Fun in literacy learning!

Bringing reading and writing together has proven successful in hub 5/6. We love experiences that create memories for our learning.

Here are some of us in action after reading our books about bubbles and a story about a road that had a big hole that needed to be covered for cars to go over.



 

Learning our List Words using Bitsboard

Today we used the iPads to learn our list words.

Miss Holland was pressing lots of buttons and that's not working good.  It wasn't very good because she was too fast and you have to slow down when you're doing it so you can think!  And you will slow down and choose one.

We had to think, and talk and collaborate with our partner, and then we had to connect.  We also had to do lots of listening.

It was hard but sometimes we knew what to push!  We will do some more practicing.

During concept learning we experimented with changing our voices and actions to suit the characters in the "three billy goats gruff."
