They learnt how to:

Operate a camera and take clear photos
Find music on YouTube
Write and perform their own original song
Write a script to go along with their movie and
Combine everything together in iMovie (either on an iPad or computer)

Aren't they amazing learners and collaborators!!

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2013

Today all of Stonefields School and the other schools in our cluster went to the Sylvia Park movies and watched our Manaiakalani Film Festival movies on the Extreme Screen!

It was so much fun and we really enjoyed watching the different movies.

This was our movie on the big screen.  Can you see Mina and Charlie introduce it?  They look so little from up in the back row!

"I felt happy because it was fun and we got to use cameras and we got to go under a picnic blanket" - George

"I felt happy because it was fun because we were making the pictures" - Tanuki

"I was excited because everyone in the movie theatre got to see our video" - Riley

"I felt sad because it was a sad song but I was also proud because I made it!" - Carys

Well done to Mrs Jackson who worked with this group of learners during break through time.  We're all so proud of what you achieved.

Being Safe around Dogs

Today Miss Hinge brought in her dog, Alfie.  We were very pleased to meet him and spent some time listening to her answer out questions, learning about being safe around dogs and patting him.

We made this video for you to learn more about dog safety.

Poetry time!

During poetry time we were set the challenge of collaborating to find the rhyming words in the poem, About Feet.  Can you hear them in our recording?

Some of us also really thought about our expression to make the recording more interesting for you!

The 300 party

We had a big celebration today!  Some of our learners typed the story directly into Clicker Docs themselves, aren't they clever?!

Today we had a party because we had 300 children at stonefields school. All the children had balloons at the party. We did drawing with chalk on the ground at lunchtime. It was awesome at the party! What did you think about the party?

Determination and Reflection in Maths

Ashlee and Riley have been particularly determined.  They were both stretched in their maths learning and had to show determination to keep on going.  They used self-talk to remind themselves to keep going and not to give up!

Making a Robot in Discovery Time

Today Kodi and Riley made an amazing robot.  They described all of the different parts of it:

Netball today

Today we have some special visitors come in to teach us all netball.  We learnt some new skills and practiced them.  Here are some learners sharing their thoughts.  Click the play button and please be patient, the photos will turn over (they're just a little slow) for you to hear everyone's ideas.

Tamaki Kindergarten Visit

A group of hub 1 learners were lucky enough to visit their kindergarten teachers and friends to have lunch together.

We talked to the children about what Stonefields School is all about!

The seven learner qualities help us with our learning anytime, anywhere. What are they and what do they mean?

We had a great time at the kindergarten and hope to do it again. A great big thank you to all of the parents and teachers at Tamaki who made this happen.

Halves and Quarters

In maths today some of us had a go at halving and quartering some simple shapes.  We also learnt what a half and a quarter look like when we write them as numbers.

Do you know what a half and a quarter look like?

Determination in Reading

In our hub we've been very spoilt - almost everyday learners have come in wanting to read their books from home to the hub!

Today Riley and Jahvan had a go.

Here's Riley to tell you more (click to enlarge the photo)

Dancing to the Beat

Look at the Break Through Group- we learning how to use the count of 8 to help us with our dancing.

Assessment Workshop: What is a running record?

Many of you will have heard us refer to running records and may be wondering just what we're actually talking about!

We use PM Benchmarks here in Hub One; this is a standardised test used throughout the country.  The nature of this test is that all teachers administer it the same way, creating a set of data that is comparable across the hub, school and potentially wider.

It consists of two readings (one to allow the reader to become familiar with the text, and another that's actually assessed for fluency, errors etc.), and an assessment on the learner's re-tell and answers (to both literal and inferential questions).

We've made a little video below to show how this assessment is carried out.  If you have any questions, please do get in touch by leaving a comment below!

At the end of Green Day

At the end of our Green Day we sung this song to the rest of the school. Can you sing it at home?

We also did a reflection for assembly.  We decided on what we wanted to say and had a little practice...

Here's Henry, Riley, Charlie S. and Dylan talking in assembly about our green day:

Hub One Herald - the first ever copy!

Extra, extra, read all about it!

Some of the learners in LH1 have become journalists.

We're very proud to be able to bring you the first ever edition of the Hub One Herald.  We put a lot of time and effort into writing our stories and took awesome 'photographs' of our stories.

What do you think?  Would you like to see the next edition of the Hub One Herald?

Click on the newspaper to read it - once it loads, you'll be able to flick through the different articles... click again to zoom in on the ones you'd like to read.

Determination and Collaboration at Tennis Today

Riley:  Today at tennis I was practicing going down and then on the top with the ball.  It was fun. At the start it was really tricky but then I found that it was easy.  It got easier because I was trying really hard at tennis and I was being determined.

Lily and Jahvan:  We bounced the ball and we tried our best and we were very determined as well.  We collaborated when we were partners and we had fun.  We collaborated so we could do it.  Sometimes we needed to talk to each other and then we played together.  It would have been hard to do it by ourselves!
