Cultural Day in LH1

We've had such a great time today in Learning Hub One - it's been Cultural Day!

Here we are in the morning.  We were really proud of ourselves as every single learner was able to talk on the microphone to say where they come from!

We paraded through the school showing off our cultural dress and recorded what we thought of our clothes...

Would you believe that Kyan (who was dressed as a New Zealand farmer) even arranged for some lambs to come and visit us?!  Here we are with Lily and Simba.  We asked lots of really good questions at the end of their visit.  Thank you Kyan and your Mum for organising this amazing surprise!

We sketched picture of each other in our cultural dress and had to pay close attention to the details.

Then in the afternoon, some of our big buddies from Learning Hub Three came to perform some of their Kapa Haka waiatas and hakas.  We were very lucky to get a private performance!

We had a fun day today celebrating all of our different cultures!!

Learners and parents, please share your comments and thoughts either in this box below or by leaving a comment...

  2. Wow, what amazing cultural outfits so many Hub One learners have. It was great to see that everyone could share their country using the microphone. And what a special treat to have Kyan's lambs come to visit.

  3. I liked the lambs because they look so cute. Lily's coat looks so beautiful. Why does Simba not need a coat like Lily's one? You're the best, Kyan.

  4. Well done to all the Hub 1 learners, What a lovely colourful concept we had and it was so nice to see the interest kids took to get dressed in different cultural outfits and sharing their countries where they come from.

  5. Hello LH1! I hope you don't mind aunties making comments! I am Alexi's aunty Becca from Wellington and I just LOVE seeing what you are doing. It means so much to me to be able to see what my niece is doing at school and we get to talk about it on the phone afterwards and we have soooo much to talk about because I see what has been happening at Stonefields through Twitter and through this blog. Lots of kids asked great questions about the lambs and I loved the Maori songs and haka from LH3. Keep on doing amazing things - you are all amazing children!

    1. Hi Becca, how lovely to see you on here - we love aunties! Alexi's lucky to have an aunty that's so interested in her learning :) Thanks for your awesome feedback too, we've been trying really hard to improve our questioning and it's paying off!

It's so fantastic to see what you are learning at school. Cultural day is very important because you get to share and learn about other peoples culture and through doing this you can enjoy and appreciate each other. I am Michael s Nanny and I am so happy that I can see all the learning activities that he participates in. Keep up the good work Hub 1 and thank you to the teachers for making my moko's time at school enjoyable.
