Tech Group Videos: Now Showing!

In the afternoons some of our students have been learning how to do a range of different things to eventually put together a movie.

They learnt how to:

Operate a camera and take clear photos
Find music on YouTube
Write and perform their own original song
Write a script to go along with their movie and
Combine everything together in iMovie (either on an iPad or computer)

Aren't they amazing learners and collaborators!!

Making Our Lunch!

Last week we spent our writing time writing invitations.  We invited our parents to come in and help us to make our own lunch.

We planned our menu and got into groups to decide on the special touches we wanted.

Yesterday was the big day when we made our delicious food!

Poetry time!

During poetry time we were set the challenge of collaborating to find the rhyming words in the poem, About Feet.  Can you hear them in our recording?

Some of us also really thought about our expression to make the recording more interesting for you!

Fixing up Miss Holland's writing

Today in writing our writing group gave me feedback on my writing.

We broke it into two different parts - one was about how I could fix up the writing that I had already done, and the other part was helping me with ideas on what I could add or do differently.

Here they are sharing their feedback with me about how I could improve my writing...

Then we gave each other feedback.

Here's LH1 giving each other feedback and buddy conferencing each other during writing time...

Maths Strand - learning about time

We have been learning how to order events, including drawing and writing about our favourite time at school.

Mrs Panapa taught us about the days of the week in Maori and we made them into a chain. The order of school events are up on the window in hub 1.

Netball today

Today we have some special visitors come in to teach us all netball.  We learnt some new skills and practiced them.  Here are some learners sharing their thoughts.  Click the play button and please be patient, the photos will turn over (they're just a little slow) for you to hear everyone's ideas.

Running at fitness time

Hello Parents, We are learning to be determined and run at fitness time. We need to practice over the holidays and weekends too, so we can get ready for cross country next term.
We remember to wear sensible school shoes so we can run fast.

Independent Superstars!

We have an amazing bunch of learners in Hub One!

"I always give my dad a high five out of the school, then I go to the school and go to the classroom and then I put my bag away myself" - Charlie S.

"I put my bag away all myself and my book bag and my drink bottle" - Jacqueline

It's good to be independent because "you will learn doing things on your own because if your parents go away and they help you, you won't know what to do" - Jahvan

"I feel good because I like it when I'm doing things myself" - Margot

"I will do it myself because if my mum does it, my mum will don't be proud of me.  If mummy's be in the car, she will be proud" - Kaichi

"My mummy doesn't help me put my stuff away.  I do it by myself.  I put my bag away and my drink bottle and my book bag" - Emily S.

"I haven't been at school very long but my mummy and daddy don't pack my stuff away.  I do it myself.  They just drop me off and that's why I do it myself every morning" - Aurelia

Here in LH1 we are independent in the mornings.  We do the following things:
  • I put my drink bottle away
  • I put my book bag away
  • I put my school bag away
  • I say goodbye to mummy or daddy (or whomever is dropping me off) and then
  • I choose some learning or something to play with until the bell goes.
We talked about being self-aware in the mornings and suggested that our more confident learners might even be inclusive and help the younger learners out in the morning if required.

Can you help us to grow the independence of the Learning Hub One students?

Science: Melting and Setting

We learnt that heating and cooling both chocolate and fat is a reversible change, because they can go from being normal, to runny and back to hard again over and over and still go back to being like they were when they started.

Here we are showing the changes between liquid and solid...

At the end of Green Day

At the end of our Green Day we sung this song to the rest of the school. Can you sing it at home?

We also did a reflection for assembly.  We decided on what we wanted to say and had a little practice...

Here's Henry, Riley, Charlie S. and Dylan talking in assembly about our green day:

Green Day!!!

Green day has begun at Stonefields School!!!

The children are all arriving in their green costumes and we're excited for the parade at 9.10.

Keep checking the blog for updates throughout the day!
