Helping my Child at Home in Writing!
Hi everyone,
Thanks so much to those of you that came along this afternoon - we've included the presentation we shared to (hopefully) help you all out.
Please remember to add your own ideas (no matter how simple they seem) to the parent forum here and if you'd like to share your child's learning as discussed, please email their writing or learning to sarahh65.lh1@blogger.com - this will then create a new blog post written by them (with your help typing it).
Any questions, please ask!

Helping your child at home in Maths...
Hi everybody,
There's a fabulous online maths course on offer right now, that's well worth taking a look at. Maths is one of those areas that people tend to have strong feelings about (all too often, negative) and this free course addresses some of those thoughts that can negatively affect the outcomes for our kids.
Have a look here for more info, and remember to check back in with the blog for more tips.

Help at Home in Reading
Hi all,
We've received this fabulous brochure with our most recent order from the National Library and thought you might like to take a look at it. I'll load the links up in the coming week to make them clickable, but in the meantime, please do have a read over it and visit any sites that sound particularly appealing.
As always, just click the images to enlarge them.

Our Parent Sharing Forum
Good morning everyone,
We're very excited to share with you our new Sharing Forum.
Joining is simple... click here to go to the forum and then click the 'apply to join group' button as per the image below. It's also linked off our planning site (Parents > Sharing Forum) if you'd prefer to access it that way.
This forum will give you all a space to share your ideas, wonderings and findings with us all. You might have tried something at home with your child that worked incredibly, or likewise, you might have tried something without success but think it could work better for a different child? You might be looking for some creative or interesting ways to make learning motivating and fun?
Whatever you are willing to share, or wanting to know, this will be a great place for you to share your thoughts and questions with each other. No question, comment or reply is silly!
As teachers, we will dip into the forum to answer your questions, but the blog and planning site will continue to be where you'll see us most.
This is your space to share and learn from each other. We'd love it if everyone body signed up and checked in every now and then to really get the most out of the environment.
Nobody knows your child better than you and it's time we used what we know to help each other out. What an awesome opportunity for us all to learn and share for the benefit our our kids!

Assessment Workshop: What is a running record?
Many of you will have heard us refer to running records and may be wondering just what we're actually talking about!
We use PM Benchmarks here in Hub One; this is a standardised test used throughout the country. The nature of this test is that all teachers administer it the same way, creating a set of data that is comparable across the hub, school and potentially wider.
It consists of two readings (one to allow the reader to become familiar with the text, and another that's actually assessed for fluency, errors etc.), and an assessment on the learner's re-tell and answers (to both literal and inferential questions).
We've made a little video below to show how this assessment is carried out. If you have any questions, please do get in touch by leaving a comment below!

Helping with Reading at Home...
Hi everyone,
We hope you've all come back after the break having managed some quality time with the kids - it's been such a treat having them back again!
I've stumbled across this website and thought you might be interested. Oxford Owl has a range of ideas to help with reading and literacy learning at home - many of them don't even require a computer. If you do decide to try some at home, please leave a comment and let the other parents know how you got on - it's always nice to know which ones worked well, which ones you tweaked, and which, if any, to avoid.
If you'd like, there's a neat looking Kids' Barn for them to explore with some more online games.
